The Effect of Temperature Change on the Sealing Properties of Temporary Filling Materials. Ii.

چکیده
0 NE of the prime considerations in the selection of a temporary filling material is the material’s ability to seal the margins of the cavity within which it is placed. Temporary filling materials are used in many phases of dentistry. During restorative dental procedures, temporary filling materials are used to protect the prepared tooth surface until the final restoration is placed. During endodontic procedures, temporary filling materials are used to seal the access opening in the crown between treatments so as to prevent fluid exchange between the root canal and the mouth. The authors of current endodontic textbooks all agree on the importance of sealing the access opening between treatments, but they do not agree on the material to be used. Grossman,l in discussing the selection of a temporary filling material, states that zinc oxide-eugenol cements are probably the best and that guttapercha preparations, intermediate, and zinc phosphate cements are the worst. He recommends the use of zinc phosphate cement placed over gutta-percha to seal posterior teeth. For anterior teeth, he recommends zinc oxide-eugenol cement over gutta-percha.

Comparative Evaluation of Sealing Ability, Water Absorption, and Solubility of Three Temporary Restorative Materials: An in vitro Study
Background: The quality of the coronal seal of root canal filling material is important for periapical health. Absorption of water or saliva by the temporary restorative materials leads to dimensional changes, loss of retention, staining and breaking in margin contours. Hence this study was carried out to evaluate and compare the sealing properties, water absorption and solubility of IRM (inter...
متن کاملCusp deflection, infraction and fracture in endodontically treated teeth filled with three temporary filling materials (in vitro)
Aim: the aim of this study was to compare cusp deflection, infraction and fracture in teeth filled with three temporary filling materials. Materials & method: Forty five extracted human premolar teeth were chosen. After root canal therapy and mesio-occluso-distal cavity preparation, samples were randomly divided into three groups , each contained 15 teeth and filled with three temporary filling...
متن کاملIn-vitro Sealing Ability of Calcium Enriched Mixture Cement Versus Amalgam as Retrograde Filling Materials
Introduction: Sealing ability of a retrograde filling material is an important factor for a successful endodontic apicoectomy. The purpose of this in-vitro study was to compare the sealing ability of calcium enriched mixture (CEM) cement versus amalgam as root-end filling materials. Methods: A total of 36 canals of extracted maxillary central incisors were instrumented and obturated using later...
متن کاملSealing ability of three temporary filling materials in endodontically-treated teeth
Introduction: Coronal microleakage may significantly reduce the prognosis of endodontic treatment. Temporary restorative materials have a crucial role in preventing the infection of root canals between and after endodontic treatment. This in vitro study was designed to evaluate the coronal microleakage of three temporary restorative materials used in endodontics: Coltosol, Cavisol and Cina. Mat...
متن کاملStructural reinforcement and sealing ability of temporary fillings in premolar with class II mod cavities.
AIM To evaluate the capability to reinforce tooth structure and sealing ability of temporary filling materials in premolars with MOD cavities. The hypothesis is that temporary filling materials can concomitantly prevent microleakage and increase fracture resistance. MATERIALS AND METHODS Premolars received root canal treatment and MOD cavities. Cavities were restored with non- eugenol cement ...
